History of Harrow Pétanque Club

The Club was formed in 1989 using a  terrain that was created  so that a Pétanque match could be played to mark the twinning of Harrow and Douai.  The mayors of Harrow and Douai officially opened the terrain.  There was only one piste so some of the games had to be played on a nearby gravel surface. It soon became apparent that a larger space was required, so the club "moved" initially to the Bessborough Cricket Club where the number of pistes increased to four.

The Club continued to grow in size and ability, so much so that a "Harrow Open" competition was held at the Bannister Sports Centre. At this competition an Old Lyonian, who was keen on Pétanque, played.

Members of HPC and the Old Lyonions got on well and the association invited the HPC to move to the OLSSC ground in Pinner View where a 14 piste terrain was created.

Harrow Pétanque Club currently has around 50 members some of whom have played since the early days and some are new to the game. Ages range from near 80, down to 10, so there will be someone of your age there.

Formal competitions are held most months during the summer, with informal matches most Wednesday afternoons, Wednesday evenings, Saturday afternoons and Sunday mornings. In addition the Club plays against other clubs in the Thames Valley area in various league competitions as well as participating in official BPA. (British Pétanque Association) matches
