Neil as a beginner to the game did very well, though as a guest his results did not count to the overall total for the whole series.

Harrow Open Cash Triples 2008

Again we suffered from the 2nd EPA qualifier being on the same day, but for those 8 teams who turned up a most enjoyable day was had. The weather was threatening us in the morning but on the whole the sun shone. A round-robin was played and at one point in the morning when after over three hours play we had only complete two rounds the organiser got worried, however play speeded up in the afternoon and all seven rounds were completed well before we had to put any artificial lights on.

Harrow host the Minors and Junior Coaching Day

On Saturday 12th Harrow hosted the EPA Junior and Cadets coaching day. 12 turned up for this event including two potential London Juniors, Pete and Daniel. 5 coaches along with the EPA umpire and a host of parent helpers put a lot of effort into a very sucessful day. Pete and Daniel were so keen they carried on playing after the event finished. All attendees were awarded a certificate and medal. It was very impressive to see them naturally pick up the style and skills of good petanque.

Harrow host the EPA last 16 (Grand Prix)

The week end of the 7th and 8th June was a busy one at Harrow. On the Saturday we hosted the Junior Squad day that selected the teams to represent England at the North Sea and at the Home Nations. See the EPA website for details. On Sunday the last 16 was held with a team that included Martin Baker (currently ranked 1) competing. Other London Association players were also competing , Benoit Brousson & Dan Hill. The game was played as five rounds of Swiss to define the top 8 whop then went into a seeded knock out.

Dan and Ben along with their partner Graham Elcome missed the cut at 11th Place, funnily they were all in London Association polo shirts, p[erhaps London has a new member they don't know about.

Martin, Herve Bavazzano, Jerome Rousseau and Phil Claydon finished 2nd. They won the quarter final 13:6 but lost the semi 13:11 so the final was between Mat Everson, Ben Gallimore, Robert Silvey, Steve Zimmerman and Marcus Hickman, Kevin Spillett, Alex Bruce, David Blakeley.  Robert Silvey's (ex London) team went on to win 13:6

Harrow host the Espoirs

On a hot May 11th Harrow hosted the first of their EPA events for 2008 ( Espoires, Junior Selection, Last 16 and last 8 Ladies). Some very impressive pétanque was played, unfortunately I don't have any pictures.

Thanks to the Harrow members who helped in this event, we received many complementary remarks from the players and organisers.

Piste Maintenance 2008

Thanks to all those that turned up to help:-  Andrew, Gordon, Joe, Martin, Michael, Nick, Ray, Robert S and Cynthia & Kaoushik who turned up to help but we were rained off on that day.

Bovindon Charity Open 2008

Congratulations to Jan and Martin who last weekend came second in this competition, having played all their 6 matches undefeated, including THREE 13:0 wins, they were defeated in the "Final" by a team that had "only" won 5 out of their 6 matches.

I understand that over £200 was raised in aid of Iain Rennie Nursing.

Harrow  Presentation 2007

Again and excellent evening, good food (Glynn Cuisine) and good company for those 17 people attending, all rounded off with a Quiz from Joe, after most members remonstrating that last years was too hard, we all did slightly better this year, but we still have a long way to go!

Thames Valley Presentation  2007

A small group from Harrow attended this, again, excellent event. As always well organised and run, excellent meal and music.  Harrow Karrow received awards for Division 1 runners up.  Harrow Seniors were not so fortunate as they were demoted following last years run of 12 games without a defeat.

HPC Singles

In the last match to gain points for the Club Championship it was a disappointing turn out with 6 of the thirty odd club members turning up. the match was run as a round robin with all entrant playing each other.  The result depended on the last game where the two front runners played each other.  In the end Mike Q was victorious against Kaoushik but Kauoshik's win gives him the club championship.

Robin Hood PC ~ 2004

To celebrate the opening of their new piste at the Botany Bay Cricket Club, Robin Hood invited Harrow to play as their first guests.

Janet & Ray, Rene & Tom, Andrew & Laura, Joe & Debbie (a member of both clubs) played a squad of 11 from Robin Hood.  The plan was to have 4 double matches in the morning with two triples and a further double in the afternoon.

The weather could not have been better when we started play at  1130, but despite timed games we did not finish all the doubles in the morning before hunger struck, when the score was 4 games all.

Play resumed after an excellent lunch, made by Jan, and a drink in the Bar.  Two more doubles rounds were played, before it was really time to stop.  The triples were therefore abandoned.

The new piste is interesting in that it has not settled down yet which made it a challenging to play on.

Harrow won the match 9 games to 7, but the whole point was to have a pleasant afternoons Pétanque which we certainly did.

Thanks Robin Hood, or as you are now called "Botany Bay PC"
